carburetor

I have a Briggs and Stratton 3.5 HP motor. I push the primer bulb and it does not seem to have much resistance as it used to as it pushes back out very quickly. I have been told the carburetor needs to be cleaned out. I started to take it off and took 5 Phillips head screws loosened to the base but it is still not loose and seem to be mounted by a "pipe" to the engine. I do not want to pull anything too hard. How do I fix this? How do I get the carburetor off?

Thanks

Re: carburetor

Hi,
You will need to first remove the 2 or 3 (can't remember exactly) bolts that hold the tank & carb assembly to the engine. Once you have the tank & carb separated from the carb, you can then remove the carburetor from the tank.

Also, I would recommend you pick up a new diaphragm & gasket to use before you put everything back together. It's just asking for trouble to re-use the diaphragm.

Re: carburetor

Thanks for answering guys. Where exactly can I find the model #? The plate over the flywheel said 20" 3.5 HP. I did not see the bolts that hold the tank & carb assembly to the engine. As I said I loosened Phillips head screws above the gas tank. but hwat needs o come off to take the carburetor off? I appreciate your help.

Thanks

Re: carburetor

One bolt is on the top right side of the tank (when facing the tank). The other one is on the top, middle of the tank, towards the engine.
