Rover Lawn King Ride-On 17.5 Briggs & Stratton wont start
Sorry, antoher Briggs & Stratton problem. My ride on will not start 3 years old brough new.
Turn starter key, sounds like flat battery turns very slow maybe 1 time. I replaced battery - same thing. Tried with jumpers - same thing. cleaned air filter, fuel filter - same thing. repaced spark plug - same thing. when spark pug was out - turned over very easily. Sort of sound like too much compression? Exhaust Valve? Is this something I can fix myself or is it off to the shop? Could a good spary of WD40 down the spark plug hole (and then replace) free it up. Cheers Paul |

given your ruling out of things - i suspect that you may have a valve clearance problem or a bent push rod
to set valve clearance run piston to tdc compression stroke then go past tdc by 1/4 of an inch or 6.35 mm down the bore on power stroke and set the intake valve to 0.003" ( this valve is the lower one ) and is alloy and exhaust to 0.005 " ( this is the upper one and is steel) make sure this does not have a blowen head gasket these ohv are famous for it - leakdown test it - if the inside of the air cleaner is wet with a light coating of oil this has come from the breather also check that the starter motor has a good ground and the regulator rectifier is grounded to the metal straps on the starter motor bracket this assumes that spark loaded / un loaded test was good and good fuel supply and compression ok hope this helps let me know mstpops |

Re: Rover Lawn King Ride-On 17.5 Briggs & Stratton wont start
Thanks boys, I've has a chat with the local "mower man" and his quick prognosis was - valve service. I do not have all of the bits and piece to do the job (and it would probably take me days not hours) so it's off to the shop. I will let you know the outcome and the bill in a couple of days.
