rocketa kart does not go forwrd or reverse

Hey there
I have a Rocketa 250 kart , engine turns on , but when I try reverse or drive and use gas pedal it does not move, but makes a mettalic rattle sound from engine area.
any ideas?

Does the motor idle good?

I'm assuming this is a centrifugal clutch system with chain drive. This would lead me to believe that something may have gone wrong with either the clutch assembly or your missing teeth on the sprocket that spins the chain. Also check the drive shaft sprocket for defects.

you are right, it is chain driven actually twin chains. Funny thing before this ride I did apply Chain Guard spray lubricant, so when I got it home I did check chains, when the breakdown occurred my first thougt was I lost a chain.
I will double check both sprockets for teeth and check chain for slippage.

checked chains and sprockets -seem okay there is a reverse gear box, however the kart doesnt go forward either, but engine idles . give it gas and rattle comes from engine area then stalls

Does it idle rough or does she sound healthy?

EDIT: I agree with BG check the cluch/gearbox assembly also you may have bent your shifting assembly and be stuck in between gears.

tonight I rechecked the chains and sprockets, then started her up and let her warm up.She sounded normal. I then checked the long shifting arm from the shifter to the L shaped joint then to the gear box.
I shifted from N to D and my son watched the arm into the gear box move.I went from D to N arm moved, D to R . shifter would not go all the way to R position
But buggy would still not move after rocking her back and forth , even though shifter moved to R . There is no longer any unusual sound , but buggy still does not go forward or back.
Trouble in the gearbox?

Its most likely something to do with the gear box I would also check how the engine links to the gear box I would check to see if a key is sheared off on a shaft that comes out of the motor and into the gear box.

If you have the tools I would take the gearbox off and take a few pics

ya the gear box is my guess I would tear the thing apart and see whats going on inside the shifting mechanism

havent had time to do anything with it.......but am wondering if I can open up gear box without removing it from buggy, what do you think? will I open up a whole new can of worms?

Probably can open it up with it still attached to the engine. I would removed rear tire first.

Have your camera handy, for pictures, when you take it apart. It will help you put it back together.

Remember the transmission will probably be filled with oil/gear lube. It could be pretty simple or it may be complicated, no way of telling.

before I pull the cover off the gear box, I am wondering if the CVT belt would have anything to do with my problems, I saw it has a belt on the online engine diagram

hey BG
had time to jack it up and remove tire, found the sprocket bracket loose.The chain was really loose, so..........tightened bracket and tensioned chain.
Figured what the hell, I will try it.
Well now she goes forward and reverse, BUT with a loud death rattle from vicinty of gear box sprocket? I didnt push it........had to leave ,
?
