A little advice needed on my new toy
Haha so this is going to sound funny but here it goes. While riding through the neighborhood the other night I noticed someone set a go cart out in their trash pile (needless to say I grabbed it up). Its a Manco and it has a 3.5hp B&S on it. Anyway it wouldnt run but its in excellent shape (still looks new) so I figured it was something stupid. Pulled the carb off and it was full of varnish and trash as was the gas tank. A bath in the parts washer and a fresh tank of gas later it runs and is pretty quick to. The questions I have are: The exhaust fumes smell horrible, not like gas, almost like sulfur or something. It will burn your nose like crazy from breathing them in. It doesnt smoke at all though and sounds great. Could it just be build up burning off? Is something wrong with the muffler? Also does anyone have a diagram or an explanation of how the governer works on these things. I'm pretty good with small engines but have mostly just repaired lawn mowers so the linkage on this thing confuses me. The motor # is 91212006001 and the go cart is model # 400-11. Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: A little advice needed on my new toy
Nice find !!!
The smell should go away after a period of time. The muffler will get hot enough to burn off anything that is inside. On the governor, did it have one hooked up? "The purpose of the governor is to maintain within certain limits, a desired engine speed, even though the load may vary" (B&S Manual) I assume you have changed the oil. BG |

Re: A little advice needed on my new toy
I'll be changing out the oil first thing tomorrow, it actually looks halfway decent but it will be getting fresh fluids just to be sure. Would the governer be the threaded rod attached to all of the linkage? I've never messed around with any go carts so I'm not sure what I am looking for.
