Re: checking compression release on 14.5 b &s
Hi and welcome to the forum
![]() If it started 10 times and the 11th time it did not, maybe battery voltage was to low. The compression release is built into the cam shaft. Seen else were: Quote:

Look at all grounds and cables and connections. Try jumping a good car battery straight to the starter.
Is the valve clearance staying the same? I've seen rocker studs come loose. Last edited by k2skier; 06-20-2009 at 10:08 PM. |

Re: checking compression release on 14.5 b &s
ascertain tdc - use clean screw driver through plug hole and slowley rotate engine by hand until screw driver will not move any higher than the piston can push it did you set the inlet and ex vales to 0.003" and 0.005" @ 1/4 inch past tdc on power stroke to make the decompressor cam in effective while settiong the tappetts if this does not work try
rotate the engine and watch which one opens and then closes the valve a fraction while the piston is comming up on compression stroke then rotate it backward till it closes the rotate slightly forward until you just see the valve start to make the decompressor action stop then just make the tappett setting for that valve a fraction closer and tighten the loc nut while holding that crank and valve setting in that position cheers |
