devilbis 1500 water pressure pump replacement

hello. just got my 3.8 hp tecumseh running, and now will attempt to work this pump. i took the pump apart last night, carefully cleaned and reassembled. the orings looked ok, and used again, as i don't have a clue as where to get replacements for the this, so i'll try it 1st as is. my ultimate question is, is there an inexpensive pump to bolt onto this motor, if needed?
this entire project is just that, and i really do not need a washer. so i will not be affording to stick alot into this, when i can get a new unit for under $300.
i already know i need a new wand, which is around $30, so i'm off to a bad start, as far as nickel and diming.
so with the info i've given, is there any advice on pump replacement, other that throwing it all away? thx

Here is the place to start for replacement parts:

http://www.devilbissparts.com/devilb...sher/1500.html

I, myself, would not spend over half the price of a new one price to repair a broken one. I have had like the one describe and pretty much threw it away when the pump was bad. ( I think you have a verticle shaft washer).

yes, vertical. not really sure what goes bad in the pump, as i've had it apart. bearing "feels" good. 3 big springs looks ok. what is the bolt and spring for, that can be adjusted? i assume it's for pressure output? i did not have this portion apart. i may unscrew this, clean it and assemble.
as far as 1/2 the cost...one with the honda engine (i'm more concerned of a good pump, vs the eng) runs around $300. so $150 for a pump is not heard of, or anything i've found. so, i got a new wand to try, and if this does not work, i'll take it back, and guess i'll trash it. uh, do they sell a pump for around $100? thx, dm

I wish I could be of more help. I really never tried hard to repair one. The one had been subject to freezing weather.

Re: devilbis 1500 water pressure pump replacement

figured out it is a FAIP pump. Thousands of these things floating around and can be replaced with newer type pumps, for around 125. Still cheaper than a new unit, as long as my engine stays running good, and for what I'd be using it for. Thx

May be a little late to save your pump, but for future use try using a product by the name of, "Pump Saver". Easy to apply and preserves seals, etc, especially doing the off season:

good advice. if/when i replace pump, i'll use that stuff. i tried the other night to get the unloader valve apart, and it is really stuck in there. so i put all back together and all that happens, is water comes out of hose, but squeezing the trigger does not build up any pressure. so there is no change at all.
so now i'm wondering if i should simply get an entire new washer, or go just for a new pump. the techumseh on it now is only 3.8 hp.

Re: devilbis 1500 water pressure pump replacement

Only you can decide to repair or replace it. Think about the new pump last as long as the old one did ?

I have Ex-Cell 5 HP (B&S) with CAT (Brand) pump, does a nice job, but most of the time I use a Karcher small electric pressure washer, for things like a car or side walk. It easier, plus when you let go the trigger, it shuts off.

As my old papa said MANY years ago: "if you take care of your equipment, it will take care of you." Guess he instilled that thought in me because @ 72 yrs old, I still have the first push mower purchased in 1963 for $25 and still runs. Just a little maintenance will go a long way, clean gas, regular oil and filter changes, etc. If it were me, appears you have already invested plenty of labor into your old PW and like another poster replied about the cost of a new pump, I'd go buy a new washer and be done with it, but that's just me. Good Luck!

Re: devilbis 1500 water pressure pump replacement

Quick thought. When hooked up to a pressurized water line, is the flow through good, when the pump is NOT running ? If not look for a clogged inlet filter.

And it goes w/out saying, but will say it anyway, DO NOT run any bleach or ANY corrosive soap through the washer. Fastest way to ruin it, IMO.

Re: devilbis 1500 water pressure pump replacement

Get the unloader valve out and oil up the orings, or replace the unloader valve. If that doesn't do it those pumps are throw away units, as are most coupled with vertical lawnmower engines. The only good pump is a linear (IE crankshaft) pump and those eccentric/wobble pumps are junk (IE price point consumer pumps).

Re: devilbis 1500 water pressure pump replacement

For some reason, I am not able to use the quote function....states i don't have permision...dunno, always worked before. When I lubed up orings and put back together ( i tried to get unloader valve out, but is really stuck) i fired up unit. water just pisses though, without pressure. just from the water pressure the handle is creating. nothing being generated from pump. not sure but most likely will donate to goodwill or someone else to mess with, and get a unit with a good pump on it. i may just replace this pump, as i don't use it much, but like i earlier said, i need a new wand to. so i'd be over half the price for a simular, newer unit.
i don't use a washer too much, but, as i get older, i strive for quality.
Can someone point me in the right direction for a good quality unit? it doesn't have to be over 2500 psi, and again, i wouldn't use it daily. Just a good solid, rebuildable (non-throw-away pump) thank you

how much to spend...

again, i can't quote for some reason, so basementG....if i could get into something for aournd $400 with a good grearbox type pump, that'd be nice.
rather have something other than a throw-away type pump.
the motore on this current unit is only a 3.8 hp tecum. so i'd have to go new all the way around. thx for any info.

Re: devilbis 1500 water pressure pump replacement

You are not going to find a washer with a good pump for $400.00. A CAT pump itself will cost about $300.00. CAT is well known good brand.

I assume you are in the US. I found this one at Home Depot that looks like a really good deal to me, at $550.00:

http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/...egoryID=502376

(I picked up a really good deal on a 5 HP w/CAT pump at a local close out store, Big Lots, about 3-4 years ago for $300.00. I bought it because it had a CAT pump)

ok, got it. is there any of the other cheaper ones that are better than others?
I see some with direct drive pumps that are horizontal, which I think would be better, as opposed to have one hang down underneath. Thx
