Please help with Tecumseh Motor

Hi and thanks for any help you may offer.
I have two gokarts for my kids. They are both identical with the same tecumseh motor (OHH60). I am having a very hard time trying to figure out what is wrong with one of the motors. I got both of these used and neither one of them were running. The first gokart all that I did was take of the carb, clean it out real good and it started right up. I tried the same thing with the second gokart. I can get it started now but only by pushing the primer bulb and holding it in. I took off the gas tank, cleaned it out and inspected the fuel line. I have even exchanged carbs with the gokart that runs fine and have the same problem so I don't think it is a carb problem. I have also installed a new spark plug. Thanks for any suggestions.
Mike

Hi Msias

Adjust the float level on the carb it's running too lean, also increase the idle and it should run OK.

Re: Please help with Tecumseh Motor

Why then will the same carb work perfectly on the other gokart?

Are you saying you swapped the carbs between the 2 engines?

The are 2 small holes in the bowl nut, main jet, that are easily over looked.

Check the valve clearance.

Yes I swapped the carbs and put the one that was on the running gokart onto the one that was not running. That is why I am saying that it cannot be the carb.

Valves not seating (seat and faces), valve clearance, head gasket, leaky intake manifold, check these out first.

Re: Please help with Tecumseh Motor

When carburetors get fouled up, adjustments are made to compensate for the discrepancies. The engine begins to run with the new settings and they vary from engine to engine, but it doesn't mean they are correct. During the cleaning process, fine adjustments are easily overlooked and when they are reinstalled the engine will not run at all or it will make the problem worse. You mentioned that you swaped the carbs from one engine to another and it worked. I'm trying to understand, did you swap the working carburator to the engine that didn't run or vice versa?

Re: Please help with Tecumseh Motor

Check that the flywheel key hasn't sheared off and allowed the flywheel to move, thus putting the timing out.
