JD STX38 Command 13 blown head gasket
I repalaced the blown head gasket and still have no compression. Noticed the rocker arms are not releasing enough to allow valves to seat. I loosened the rocker arms to see if there was any compression and we measured 60psi but can not figure why the valves don't seat to build some compression? is this normal?

Re: JD STX38 Command 13 blown head gasket
Hello Dare2bdfrt
No it is not normal, If the valves do not seat properly it's a result of either bent or burnt valves, broken or weak valve springs. hope this helps |

Re: JD STX38 Command 13 blown head gasket
The valves do seat ok. It looks like there is an automatic compression relief that keeps the compression low for start up. It also looks like there is a weight that spins out as the rpms go up and allows full compression. Dealer indicated it should run unless there was a backfire which might have broken the flywheel key... Going to check that next... Thanks
