update on 16hp briggs n stratton wont start
this engine only turns once. the battery is good, even with booster hooked up it will only turn over a couple times. when i remove the sparkplug the motor will turn over freely. i watched valves operate as piston goes through its strokes they seem ok. intake opens then they both close for compression stroke then exhaust opens for last stroke. ive tried an old starter work fine on the ground but still samething in tractor, wont crank with plug in. also ive had it backfire twice with all this trying. hope this has more info than my last posting any help is appreciated thanks

Re: update on 16hp briggs n stratton wont start
Hello Kl65
The problem that you are describing may come from multiple sources. Since the engine cranks normally with the spark plug removed, you will have to check a few things to verify. a) Timing is off b) ignition coil open or shorted c) damaged trigger wheel, reluctor or sensor d) primary wiring connections have corrosion on them e) flywheel key is broken f) flywheel out of round g) incorrect spark plug length hope this helps |
