Oil in cylinder B&S

Briggs engine ran good but would suddenly stumble and blow engine oil in out the exhaust and then would clear for awhile . NOW it just back fires (pops) thru the carb lots of oil in cylinder . Broken oil ring ?? Any ideas appreciated gonna pull the cylinder head to see what i might see !!! Thanks

I can only assume that you have made sure that the oil is not over filled and the breather is good
