6.75 Briggs mulching mower very low power

I have a well maintained Craftsman (I know) mulching sell propelled mower that has very low power when mowing. Deck now plugged with grass, starts and runs perfect. I even turned up the idle by bending the governor spring to see if that would help. It didn't help. I'm gonna check the air filter and muffler to make sure they are not restricted, I'm pretty sure I've replaced the air filter fairly recently. Any common problems would be greatly appreciated. I'm pretty up mechanically, Senior Master with Ford and ASE. Thanks alot. Larry Robinson

Re: 6.75 Briggs mulching mower very low power

Hi and welcome to the forum

Nothing wrong with Craftsman's mowers, my old "Sears" about 22-25 years old.

Make sure, since it a mulching mower, that old dry grass is not cake up on the underside the deck. Make sure the blade is sharp. Never cut about more than 1/3 of the grass length at one time, about one inch or so. Never cut the grass when it is wet.

Also slow down a little pushing it.

Something else to try that I do and seems to help a lot.
Living in Ohio and having to store the mower for several months during the winter.
Throw in a bit of fuel injector cleaner into the tank.
It cuts the varnish that accumulates in the carb and helps with both idle and full power passages.
