"Push" Lawn Mowers--need one that "cuts"

I need help finding a "push" mower (not a riding mower) that cuts close to the ground so that I can see where I've cut. We once had a good Lawn Boy that did this, and I really enjoyed using it. However, something went wrong with the "crank" mechanism and it is no longer useable. We later bought a Sears Craftsman, hoping that it would take the place of our much loved Lawn Boy. But not so.....it won't even cut the flowers of the clover that grows in our yard, even at the lowest setting!

Can any of you help me in this regard? My Dad said he didn't believe they sell any lawn mowers any more, of the type I am looking for. Is he right? I sure hope not, in this case! I'm now in charge of cutting our five acres, since my Dad fell seriously ill and can no longer do any yardwork. As I'm rather new at this sort of thing, and although we use a riding mower for most of the yard, there are some areas that just can't be cut with a riding mower that a "push" mower would be just right for! HELP!!

Use a weed eater for the areas that you miss with a riding lawnmower.
If the blade is sharp, and spinning on a push mower it has to be cutting.

Due to safety concerns mowers don't cut as short as they used to, the decks are deeper and blade sit up higher. This was done to help keep people from cutting off their toes!!

Most grass should be 2-3 inches in height. Cutting really short promotes weed growth.

Thanks for the replies. With my Dad being terminally ill and unable to do any outside chores, that automatically made me the heir to all the yardwork done on the 5 acres surrounding our house, so I am naturally inclined to keeping the grass as short as possible, for the time span of a week, so that I can tend to other yardwork and chores inside the house, as well. So I need the assistance of machinery that can assure that this can be done as speedily and as short as possible. As you are probably right, though, about there not being any lawnmowers being built like they used to, I will probably have no luck in finding what I want.

I am really sorry to hear about you dad. Try to keep cut 2-3 inches, never removing more than 1/3 of it at a time.

Good luck! I find myself cutting grass about every 4 days, in the Spring
