lawnmower problem, please help!

Have a lawnboy that takes the 2 cycle gas oil mix. HAd it about 6 years now.

Anways, I went to mow someone's lawn today, and it started out fine, but after about 20min, it spurted out.

I pressed the primer twice, and it started right up again, and ran for about 5min before spurting out of life again.

I pressed the primer once, and pulled the cord and again it started right up.

This went on for the rest of the lawn (about an hour) sometimes it would go for a good amount of time, sometimes it didn't even stay on for 1min.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Sounds like a dirty card, water or debris is floating around and gets sucked up in the main jet, once it dies the debris falls out. Check the carb first.

Re: lawnmower problem, please help!

yeah when I was mowing the neighbor came over to take a lot, and when he messed with the carborator (said it looked a little dirty) the mower seemed to run a lot longer (although it still died eventually, and then I was back to having it run for 10 seconds, dying, restarting, etc)

Re: lawnmower problem, please help!

Check to air vent on the gas cap. Gas tanks have to be vented to the outside air!! If there aren't it creates a vacuum, in the tank, and the engine will die because of fuel starvation.
