12hp briggs coil problem

I have a 12hp briggs vertical shaft engine I just put into a lawn mower. every time I try to connect the coil I blow the inline fuse. I have a 15 amp fuse installed. I am guessing I have a grounding issue??? I tried to bypass the fuse and hardwire it and it smoked the coil so I know something is definately not right. Any ideas on what is going on? thanks.

Re: 12hp briggs coil problem

No voltage is supposed to go to the coil.

Re: 12hp briggs coil problem

Usually it is a wire that grounds the coil to turn the motor off.
