What is the solenoid for on Intek carb.?

Hi All,

Pardon the almost duplicate posting but I have now cleaned and refitted the carb and still nothing.

I suspect the solenoid thing as the plunger refuses to move.

What is that for?

Can I leave it out?

I can machine up a bolt to block the hole in the bottom of the bowl.

Re: What is the solenoid for on Intek carb.?

It's called an after-fire solenoid, it prevents fuel from being pumped through the carb when the engine is turned off, the unburnt fuel enters the hot muffler, and BANG, sounds like a rifle shot. You should have 12v+ to the gray wire when the key is in the run position, easy check with a meter. To test the solenoid you can use a 12v battery with jumper wires or a 9v battery will also actuate it, you will hear it click or watch the plunger move. A standard bowl nut is available, but if you don't idle the engine before turning it off it will after-fire and could damage the muffler besides your ears.
