Intek 16hp manual and info needed

Hi All,

Newbie here. I have a lawn mower with a 16.5hp BS-Intek and it will not start. Well, that's not really true, it will start with Spray Start but not with gas. It was running fine when I shut it down about 4 months back, now nothing.

Because it will start and run for as short time with Spray Start I am sure it is a gas problem.

I have removed the carb and float bowl and all jets look clean and clear. There is a solenoid of some sort that screws up from the bottom of the float bowl. What is that for? It appears to be a gas cut off and if so, why is it there? What controls it?

The slider in the solenoid seems jammed as it doesn't move up or down. I checked the coil resistance and it is good at 40-Ohms and a bench test with a 12v battery does not activate it.

I'd like to get a look at a carburetor manual if possible.

Any help very much appreciated.

Thanks.

Dave

Re: Intek 16hp manual and info needed

copy and pasted from-What is the solenoid for on Intek carb.?

It's called an after-fire solenoid, it prevents fuel from being pumped through the carb when the engine is turned off, the unburnt fuel enters the hot muffler, and BANG, sounds like a rifle shot. You should have 12v+ to the gray wire when the key is in the run position, easy check with a meter. To test the solenoid you can use a 12v battery with jumper wires or a 9v battery will also actuate it, you will hear it click or watch the plunger move. A standard bowl nut is available, but if you don't idle the engine before turning it off it will after-fire and could damage the muffler besides your ears.

Hi K2, I am an Atomic man myself but thanks for the explanation on the solenoid. The first thing I did when I got this tractor was to disable the seat/brake cut offs so the only time the engine will shut off is when I turn off the key.

This solenoid is gummed almost solid. I pulled the rubber end off and grabbed the piston with pliers and it is like dragging it through glue. I will pull the piston to the limit and cut it off and reinstall to block the hole. It had gummed in the up position I guess and that's why not would not start.

I do not use the tractor a lot so will live with noise if I forget to idle it. I am out in the boonies and gunshots are normal around here. :O The neighbors will think I am returning fire. LOL KIDDING, KIDDING OK!

Thanks for the quick help. Very much appreciated.

Re: Intek 16hp manual and info needed

Hi All,

Just a follow up to this saga. I pulled the solenoid piston out as far as it would go and cut it off. Now it is just used as a hole-blocker.

The engine is all running fine again. Thanks for the help. I use the throttle all the way back to let it idle and it dies which is perfect and will prevent any backfires.
