blowing gas through carb

I have a 5h Briggs that will not start. It is building up pressure in the bottom of the motor and blowing a tube off that goes from the back of the motor to the carb. Any ideas what is causing this????????

If the tube you are describing is rubber perhaps it has collapsed inside. I would first try replacing the hose. If you haven't already take the bowl off the carb and be sure your main jet is not plugged.

I should have said the hose/tube is medal.

The hose connects to the engine on a cover plate, it's also a crankcase breather. Remove the cover/breather (IE PCV valve) and make sure it's checking properly, if it's not checking it will pressurize the carb.
