the breather, steel mesh, just under the carb is pissing out the oil, which turned milky. ive drained the oil, added new oil. i tightened the screw under the carb float bowl. thinking mabe the gas was leaking into the screen. the oil level is to the proper mark. i tried to start it again but wont start now, and the oil is still seeping out the screen from turning it over. i had previously started the machine, it ran for a few mins. then i shut it down. i noticed the the leak then , determined were it was coming from., ive remove the screen housing, 2 screws, but its not coming loose from the engine. what the problem?? thnks for ur help

Hi & welcome to TSF"Milky" coloured oil usually = water in the oil. I would change the oil and fill to correct level with "good oil"I think the screen you are talking about is the "breather tube" from the crank case and that should be connected by a flexible hose to the carb air intake. Next - pull the plug and make sure that it is OK - not covered in black greasy / oily film - if it is - get a new plug, set the correct gap and check you have spark. If you are getting spark, then I would try a little spray of ether (Aerostart) in the air intake and see if you can get your engine to even look like firing. If it will fire up but then stops, we will have narrowed the problem down to fuel supply / dirt / muck in the carb. See if there is any water or other crap in the carb fuel bowl and check the main jet (that is usually the bolt that holds the fuel bowl on) All the little holes in the jet must be clear and clean. Hope this helps - let us all know how you get on |

Re: toro 521
Hi Germantown Joe & welcome to TSF.1st off it's better if you start a new thread for a new problem - that way other TSF members have more chance of seeing your post and making suggestions. OK - on to your problem. Your info is a bit scant but , if you have fuel, spark and compression ALL ENGINES just have to start - so one must be missing. Have you tried to test if you have spark?? Also, see if you can get a can of spray ether (Easy Start etc) and just give a short squirt into the carb throat and see if you get any sign of the engine even trying to start. See if this works and post back how you get on |
