I have a craftsman chipper shredder that is about 30 years old. It starts fine, however it constantly surges while running.I was told that the carb float may need adjusting. The carb is a Tecumseh 27272A and I am looking for the specs for the float setting.Any other info on why it may be surging would be welcome. The carb has no air fuel mixture setting, the filter is new and the EGR line is clear. Also is it a good idea to get the chipping blades sharpened.
Thanks to all, Keith ![]() Last edited by saltydog806 : 04-25-2008 at 12:01 PM. Reason: to make more specific |

Re: Carb Specs?
There's a special gauge that I use for setting the float level, so I don't know what the actual measurement is. But I'm not so sure that's what's causing the surging. More likely it's a dirty/plugged jet, or water in the carburetor.

Re: Carb Specs?
I dont think its the float, I do think a spring has either weakend or come off for the govner. This will cause the cooling fan in the upper housing to push the blade in and out if reving to high or higher than normal.
