B&S hard starting problem

I am new on here and looking for some quick responses while i search threads. I have a 6hp engine on a mower and for the life of me I cannot get it to start and run. I really have problems starting mowers after putting them up for a while even after using gas stabilizer. But, I have not been draining carb and tank which may help in the future.

I have removed and cleaned carb a few times now. It will run if I pour a small amount of fuel into engine but it will not continue running. I cannot seem to get engine to prime up with rubber bulb. Engine does not have much run time on it. Float and needle look fine. I have drained tank twice. I used carb cleaner to remove varnish and then i blew air through ports in carb. Any ideas? Thanks,

Might be the rubber diaphram, its like a accelerator pump, you can hold
it up to the light and see pin holes.

The rubber primer bulb is red and even has a hole in the middle of it. I will look under it to see if there is a diaphram. Thanks,

Re: B&S hard starting problem

I bought this string mower at Sears and just finished installing a new carb I bought today at their parts store. Mower started right up! Not sure where the problem is in the older carb, I suspect that the float isn't working correctly.

Guess I need to spend a little extra time running gas out of tank and carb before putting mower away for the winter.

Re: B&S hard starting problem

There are no diaphrams on your engine. Remove the jet nut that holds the float bowl in place and using a small diameter stiff wire you have plucked from a wire bristle brush, clean out all the small holes you find in the brass. They are not much larger than your piece of wire so look closely. There may be another small hole in the float valve's seat.
Good luck.
