1999 jeep grand cherokee
looking for a little advice. My GJ wont start!!! This is a list of the things I have determined or symptoms
1) The engine turns over but there is no firing 2) battery @ 12.7 3) I have spark at the ignitioin rail and to all spark plugs (I replaced the plugs as the ignition rail is not the easiest thing to get off) 4) I have fuel all the way up to the injectors. injectors, fuel pump and fuel filter are good I was told my next step would be to check the crankshaft and the camshaft position sensors. The problem is that the crankshaft sensor is a bugger to get to and checking the camshaft sensor seems to be a little to involved. they are both cheap sensors bu tif anybody has any advice or has encountered anything like this I would appreciate any words of wisdom. Oh there is one last thing. I failed to mention that a couple days before this happened I had to replace a small rubber hose and clamp that runs from the transmission to the radiator. Some tranny fluid had leaked out but there was still quite a bit left. Any help would be appreciated !!!Thanks

Re: 1999 jeep grand cherokee
Hi jfond27
Check for any engine codes and please post them. Remove the spark plugs and see if they are wet. If they are, dry them out because the engine has flooded after multiple cranking attempts. The crank sensor has 2 bolts holding it, and 2 wires, it is located on the bell housing. Inspect the wires from top to bottom of the crank sensor and see that they are not damaged, use a DVOM to test for continuity. If the wires are burned, or damaged, replace the crank sensor. post back your findings. Last edited by octaneman; 10-31-2009 at 09:48 AM. |

Octaneman:
Thanks for the reply! I ran a diagnostic on it and the code 0320 (crank not realying to PCM) came up. Seeing it was only a $34 part I decided just to replace it (which is a lot easier said then done). Jeep tried to fire but as you said it was hella flooded! Pulled the plugs and drained the fuel railTruck started up and was running rough for about 10 minutes. After that it ran perfect! Actually better then before (replaced the plugs and the fuel filter in my first attempt to figure out what was wrong) Like I said running great!! Thanks for the post I appreciate it! Jfond27
