2002 Olds Intrigue Burning oil?
Hello TSF. I bought a 2002 Olds Intrigue last month. The car was senior driven and well looked after. Only 73,500 km. Very clean car almost mint condition. 3.5 litre engine dual overhead cam. In the last two weeks I have driven it on a few long trips. Both trips were 400km return. Noticed it burned or passed by 1 litre of oil on these trips. Car has lot's of power and can't see piston rings being worn. No visible blue smoke, or smell. Could this be cracked and or stiffened oil seals from city driving? Apparently the car was garaged for long periods of time. The manual recommends no oil additives. Can highway driving over time fix the issue? With higher rpm and oil pressure can this free up the seals with out additives?

Re: 2002 Olds Intrigue Burning oil?
Hi,
just to let you know you said it ws "senior driven" which usually (not always) means it was lightly driven. If you were to really push the car hard after that, it could break the rings. This happens from the face the pistion camber wears down, and forms a lip at where the pistion normaly stops at. At higher rpms, the pistion will travel slighly greater. Anyway, do check the simple things first. Is the oil dran pan / drain pan plug leaking, or the oil filter? It could also be some seal. Maybe look for any noticeable oil spots where you park, or any excess oil on the engine and where. |

Re: 2002 Olds Intrigue Burning oil?
Yes it was lightly driven, according to the senior I bought the car from. Hardly ever left the city. Everything is clean under the hood checked it on a hoist no visible oil leaks or burning smell. When I drove the car of a few long trips I didn't push it, drove 65 MPH most of the way to check the car's fuel economy. Gave me 32 MPG highway. Other than the oil consumption the car runs mint.
