94 Chev 1500 Hard Starting
Chev 350, carberated. Intermittant hard starting. And when it won't start, there is no cylinder firing at all. When it does start, it runs fine. Lots of power, smooth running.
Seems worse when it is cold. My wife was complaining about it for the past few weeks, but whenever I jumped in it, it started fine. Just changed the cap and rotor. Still no go. Should have splashed some gas in the carb, because after the cap and rotor, I decided to try it. It fired right up. So its fuel related. But why intermittant? If the fuel pump is bad, its done right? No joy for ever until it gets changed. So I am back to thinking it is electronic... the computer? Somehow it isn't turning the pump on when the key is turned? Are there sensors, or other electronic things to check? Saw 2 electronic valves? On top of the Carberator... The fuel pump is in the tank on these trucks right? Stumped |

Re: 94 Chev 1500 Hard Starting
I doubt it's carbureted unless you put one on yourself. If fuel injected could be a weak/failing fuel pump, which would be in the tank.

Re: 94 Chev 1500 Hard Starting
Yes, my mistake, its throttlebody injection. Just looked something like a carb. FYI be careful you don't start a fire (as I did) It could be bad if it goes unnoticed and burns up the wiring and plastic above the throttle body.
Tried changing out the fuel pump relay... didn't fix it. So its in the shop having the tank taken out, to put a new pump and filter in. FYI, the fuel line from the tank to the filter can be a real pain. I am replacing it. |
