Re: 3.1l head gasket repair

Hi sp457,

Good luck working on any transverse mounted engine!! My parts supplier shows the 3.1L being a pushrod engine..... no overhead cam. What is the reason for a new head gasket?? If the engine has moderate to high mileage you might want to have the valves ground and the head rebuilt..... but if you do one you will have to do the other, also. These (transverse mounted) engines are such a pain that there is no sense in taking short-cuts that might cause you to have to "tear it down" again.

Re: 3.1l head gasket repair

Like SABL said the cam is ok, but the reason the right hand head is so hard to get to is that way you'll take it to the dealer every time and they can soak your wallet dry just to look at it and say its broke.
