2003 Grand Prix will not start

My 2003 Grand Prix started and drove fine, and I went out a few hours later and it started to turn over once and then nothing. When the key is turned toward the starting position the dashboard lights and gauges flicker and make a clicking noise in the dashboard. The rpm gauge goes up and down, all the way past the red zone. When the key is turned backward, there seems to be normal power. It is not the battery. The car is also locked in Park. I depressed the Park lock button, and tried starting in neutral and Park again and it still will not start, and no clicking noise like it is trying. Money is very tight and I do not want to pay for a tow and then unnecessary repairs, so any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: 2003 Grand Prix will not start

I'll try unhooking the battery. The security light comes on, but so do all the other dashboard lights. When it first happened I thought maybe I triggered some sort of anti-theft device, but I called the dealership and they said it wasn't that, but of course they weren't very helpful without bring the car in for them to look at.

Re: 2003 Grand Prix will not start

lol.... i also have a 03 grand prix and i had the same problem. but the security light would flash....so i disabled the security system by cuttin a wire in the stearing colum. that fixd it for a few months and it started doing it again cause the bat was goin bad....my guess would be u have a bad bat but i would test the alt as well
