Chevy 4.3L Boat Engine
Hi,
We have a GM 4.3lt V6 in our boat 1994. The engine was running and began to make a noise, then it stalled. On investigation it was found that the starter motor had remained engaged while it was running and so damaged it. We installed another which has suffered the same fate. So obviously the problem lies elsewhere. Can someone shed some light on my problem? Also I cannot find a wiring diagram that matches the engine, even though it is the same model. Thanks |

Re: Chevy 4.3L Boat Engine
If you ruled out the starter motor return spring (which you did by replacing the starter), perhaps the ignition switch is broken so that it is keeping the start circuit energized when you release the key to the run position. Put the key in "run" and check to see if you are still getting +12v to the starter. You could disconnect the wire going the to the starter while checking it so it doesn't actually try to turn the motor over. Or you could do it w/o disconnecting it but if you do pull the coil wire so the motor doesn't start. Another possibility is that the starter pinion isn't lined up perfectly and is binding enough to not let it spring back. Might need to be shimmed....
