Re: 1.8 to 2.0 tranny

Hi Zach,

What are we working on??
2.0 and 1.8 are engine size??

Many trannies are common and used in a wide variety of vehicles. The auto makers don't produce a different tranny for each engine size. For example.... Ford used the E40D on 6cyl all the way up to the larger diesel engines.

Re: 1.8 to 2.0 tranny

If the clutch is not lined up you won't get the tranny bolted up.... never push the clutch in (the pedal) with the tranny removed unless you have something to align the clutch disc back to center. Hopefully you checked the pilot bushing/bearing when you had the tranny out. If the bushing/bearing is missing or worn out the front-shaft bearing will get overstressed and fail due to lateral overload of the input shaft.

Depending on your shifting habits..."power-shifting" .... the failure could be internal linkage. I have seen bent shifting forks cause failure by not keeping the gears in the correct position. A "missed" gear is good for popping the brass ring out of a synchronizer.
