92 chevy 1500 350

just installed used motor in my truck 350 fuel injected other motor had bad rings motor ran fine for a few days drove truck about 150 miles interstate 70 mph no smoke or noises got alomost home started losing power missing real bad got home retimed it starts if hold throttle half open pours black smoke then dies out won't idle reset timing no change all sensors throttle body n distributor are off motor i took out of trk any ideas?

Hi killntime73

When you replaced the engine , were the components from the original engine put on the one you installed ? ( wires , spark plugs, sensors, etc..) Black smoke indicates that the engine is running too rich, Did the check engine light come on before it stalled ? Check the engine computer to see if any codes were set.

all sensors distributor wires everything including throttle body are off motor i took outta my trk only thing i didn't change was egr valve motor was stripped down to bare intake when installed old motor ran good just burned oil

Check for fuel in the oil.
Does the check engine light work(comes on with key on goes off when started)?

Recheck all connectors as a intermittant connectiion could be causing the injection system to be cycling in and out and as the computer senses various conditions it is trying to play catch up.

Also if it is throttle body injection try to look in to the body and see if the fuel is spraying or pouring in. If it is pouring in it may just be bad luck and a injector has broken.

engine lite works comes on when key turned on is also on when running no gas in oil still running rough motor sit 4 about five years could a valve be burnt? Engine let out puff of black smoke then started running rough drove it about 8 miles like that no other smoke or noises acted like it jumped time then wouldn't start till i retimed it

If you had to move the timing to get it to run it very well may have jumped time. how far off was the distributor?

Thank you guys 4 all your help i found a crack vacuum line. Truck starts easy doesn't smoke but still runs sluggish when i try to pull out timing may still b off a little don't have a lite going 2 get 1 2morrow

If memory serves there is a brown wire near the dist. you have to disconnect when setting the initial timing.
