91 Acura legend. Engine light ON
I have a problem with my legend and can't figure out what is causing it. Everytime i drive on the highway for like 10min, the engine light comes on. if i stop and turn the engine off and on, the light disappear, but then comes on again in 10 min on highway. Before it was over heating and we found out ti was a rubber tube hoes at the back of the engine. and so i thought the engine light was caused by the over heating. but it still comes on after we replaced the hoes and the over heating has stopped. Someone plz help me. Also i was told one engine mount at the back is not good. can this cause the engine light to come on? Please help.

Re: 91 Acura legend. Engine light ON
If the light is coming on it means that the computer has detected a problem.
When the computer detects a problem it will store the numerical code of the problem so that it can be read later using a scanner. Virtually any auto parts store and or any garage has a scanner to read the code to determine what is the cause of the trouble. I know auto zone will bring one out and hook it up for you and get the code. That should be your first step as it only takes a few minutes and should be free of charge. |

Re: 91 Acura legend. Engine light ON
thanks very much for ur help. Also i have a nother question. there is a fiber cover under the hood, suppose to protect the hood, i was wondering if i can just remove it. mine is in pretty bad shape, plus it make my hood very heavy, i was wondering if it might cause over heating or any malfunction if i remove it. Can i remove it?

Re: 91 Acura legend. Engine light ON
I think the hood blanket serves two purposes. One is noise insulation, and the other is if there is an engine compartment fire, the blanket is supposed to fall off and help suppress the fire.
I doubt Autozone will be able to pull any trouble codes from your car, as they only pull OBDII codes. You'll probably have to pay a garage to pull the code(s), unless there is a way to do it without a code reader or scan tool. You can do that with some older cars. |

Re: 91 Acura legend. Engine light ON
theres a way to get the codes from an obd1 system with a jumper wire but you have to know which terminals to use. the ses light will flash indicating the code numbers...the number of times it flashes that is.
if its running fine i wouldnt worry about it. you can try disconnecting the battery or pulling the ecm fuse for a few minutes. that will delete the stored codes. but if it comes back theres usually a problem. but like said if its running fine dont worry about it. |

so... if i change it to Carbon fiber hood, would i still need the blanget, or it wouldn't be of any use like i think i isn't now. Because it's riped up and got holes in them.

Re: 91 Acura legend. Engine light ON
Hi Nature3,
That blanket attached to the bottom of the hood is for noise reduction (nothing more). If it is in bad shape, just remove it. Worse thing that can happen is that you will hear a little more engine noise.....but you will sleep better. :). Best regards, Mack1 Sorry bruiser, didn't notice that you had an other reason for the blanket. I have never thougth of it as a fire retardent media.

Also i asked about the code scanning for the engine light, two diff. mechanics said the car doesn't have a scanner plug. Is it true or they just don't know where it is. The little compartment between the drive and front passenger seat has an outlet thing inside, but one mechanic said that not it. Do you have any idea how i can get the error code? |
