Re: i' ready to knock my truck out

The sensor is less then $30 not really worth pounding around the junk yards for.

Re: i' ready to knock my truck out

No the knock sensor should have nothing to do with the brakes check the hoses and calipers, The brake hoses can fail internally causing fluid pressure to remain on the caliper, and the calipers can get rusty and pistons hang not returning.

Re: i' ready to knock my truck out

No it will set the check engine light and put the ECM into open loop just like it is now without that input the ECM won't get the timing or air/fuel ratio set correctly leading to poor fuel mileage(rich) or burnt pistons(lean).

Re: i' ready to knock my truck out

Beware... these things are not that easy to change. It has flats like a nut but that is onlky attached to the innards and when you go to try to turn it most likely the internals will break loose from the housing. On mine the knock sensor body was basically welded into the motor with what looked like red thread locker. So the innards just spun around without actually getting the whole sensor to turn. I ended up having to remove a lot of interference and then get some vise grips on it and use a torch to heat up the head around it. I left a thread on this over at S10forums. I'll see if I can find it and link it here.

Here is the thread from when I had to pull my drivers side KS. There are a few pics in there that might be of interest. What a PITA!

Re: i' ready to knock my truck out

Sounds like a loose wire, connector or the sensor is bad does it appear to be leaking oil?

Re: i' ready to knock my truck out

The electric fuel pump is hooked through the oil switch so that if the engine isn't running and loses oil pressure it shuts the fuel pump down.
