I'm in the process of installing a new driver door power window motor/regulator in my 98'. I got it attached to the inner door panel and reattached to the window and door. Before I put in all the screws I decided to plug it up to the door panel switch and test it. It makes like it wants to move but stops immediately. the rear end of the door glass seems to try to go down, not much movement in the front. I observed this while trying to make the window go up and down. It goes back up of course but it's reached the top of its travel and can't go any further.
Has anyone experienced this before? Do I have something jibbered inside the door causing it to get hung up? I've done several of these before on different vehicles but don't remember having so much trouble. |

Re: 98 Tahoe power window motor/regulator install problems
Its difficult to say without seeing it. But I would say that with the motor not attached see if there is a way to work the window up and down to be sure there is no jamming of the mechanism.
Its possible that is what caused the other motor to fail. It sounds like one of the little rollers on the front of the window may be starting to fail or the rivet is working loose causing the roller to twist inside the track and causing a bind. If you dont have to return the motor for a core charge maybe you can take it apart and get the piece that drives the mechanism so you have a place to hook the vice grips.. But like I said its hard without seeing it. Last edited by pat mcgroin; 05-26-2009 at 07:54 AM. |

Well it looks like I have no choice but to disassemble it all again, anyway. So I will try moving the window up and down in its tracks like you said. The other thing is that the regulator came from LMC truck in a specific position, all the way up. I could try hooking up a 12v supply to the motor and testing its functionality before trying to cram it back into the door, but primarily to have a little more room to get the thing in there. I just couldn't shove the glass any further upwards.
Thanks for your input I'm gonna do it when I get home from work! |
