[SOLVED] 1982 Mercedes TD300 power window trouble
Hello,
My friend is having a problem with his power windows, it started 2 years ago. They worked great at the time, then all of a sudden about 2 years ago, they sometimes acted up window would roll down but not roll up no reaction from switch at all, then a minute later or so it would work again. (all windows) This went on for about a year or so (intermittently worked) though for the most part they worked usually. Now they dont work at all any more. He took it to a garage (lol) and they replaced the switch in the center console (I tested the switch its not defective). But this is not the problem, still the windows dont work. The other thing to that when I looked the car it had an oil leak coming from behind the speedometer, so as a quick fix I plugged the oil sending line coming from the engine so that the oil would stop coming into the car. He was so greatful, but Im wondering how could the garage miss this and not tell him? So my question here is has the oil leak from behind the speedometer caused shorts anywhere in the wiring or any terminals behind speedometer? Also when diagnosing the power windows where would you recommend I start looking for the problem? or anyone have any ideas what is the problem? if they are all not working on the car? I figure I might as well ask first before I go look at the car for any ideas? or good suggestions? even though Ive been mechanic for 25 years, I dont practise it everyday but Im pretty good at diagnosing cars. Also guys please dont spend too much time on this problem or resources Others probably need more help on their problems more so than I, Im just asking for any quick input or ideas off the top of your head. Any suggestions or info on this matter would be greatly appreciated, ty for your time on this. |

Re: 1982 Mercedes TD300 power window trouble
Most power window issues are broken wires in the swing area of the door, where the door hinges are and the wires bend every time the door is opened and closed, the oil leak is most likely the oil line at the back of the gauge I think those still used copper lines, they get brittle and crack over time.

Re: 1982 Mercedes TD300 power window trouble
Thanx for the reply wrench, greatly appreciated.
You could be exactly right wrench, as I recall he did have problems with the driver door hinge being bent, that could be it, ty, I will definitely keep this in mind. I will let this run 1 more day, just today to see if any more responses. |
