2005 Jeep Laredo

My daughter's jeep has a couple minor problems. I figured I'd get a manual and no problem. Almost $400 for the shop manual! Jeez!

I'm trying to get access to the gear shift in the console. The rubber piece at the base of the gear shift bunches up when the gears are shifted. The top 2 pieces are just snap on. The last piece has 2 screws on drivers side (have removed), but something is still holding this guy and I don't see what it is. Any ideas?

Re: 2005 Jeep Laredo

First off let me apologize for this thread being overlooked. We have a staff of volunteers here at TSF and some sections have less active volunteers than others. In the future keep in mind, it's completely ok to return to your post and "bump" it by posting a new reply, once each day or two is fine. This brings your post back to the top of the list, and when you're getting no replies after a few days, it's a good idea to bump it.

Now, back to the subject at hand.

Your local library should have the manual, and should allow you to make some photocopies out of it. In addition to that, alot of libraries have an online reference you can use from their computers. I don't know why the manual is 400$, but most auto shops have chilton and haynes manuals, they range from 15-50$, so you might call your local parts stores and ask if they have one. This isn't the exact same manual, but it's usually fine for the type of repairs anyone would want to do themselves.

I'd say that there's some hidden screw, or a snap clip of some kind, try to get a makeup mirror down under it so you can take a really good look at what is possible clipped up under it. This usually helps find screws too, since they almost always have some kind of riser that supports them.

Hope this helps, post back if you have any further problems.

Re: 2005 Jeep Laredo

I actually solved this yesterday. It was embarrassingly simple. If you look at the opposite side view picture, you see a pocket for money/change, whatever. Inside that area is a thin rubber mat covering the bottom of the pocket. I pulled that up and there were 2 screws underneath. Removed those and BINGO!

Thanks anyway.
