[Success Story] 1992 camaro rs 305v8 automatic fuel drivability problems

hello every one. i think i have solved the problem all of us have faced with the fuel problems. i decided to just replace the fuel pump to see if that was the problem. ( quick tip ) cut an acces panel in the trunk area to get to sending unit. you can use fuel injection line or regular fuel line with clamps, to put lines back together. don't worry, it's only about 15 psi max. pressure.) once i got the pump out, i immediately saw the problem. the 2'' piece of rubber line that connects the pupm to the sending unit had ruptured. this would allow fuel to the injector, but not enough pressure to run the vehicle. just to check this, i put a new piece of hose in it's place, and put everything back together, and the car runs great. it was not the pump at fault, but the hose being submerged in gas all these years. that's why the give you a new piece of hose with a new pump. anyway, i took it all back apart, and put on the new pump, and everything works great now. i hope this helps everyone with similar problems.

Thank you for posting your success story, we need more of these here, they end up searchable, and people with similar problems will find them with google and other search engines, and possibly find the answers to their own problems. (that's why tsf doesn't delete old threads)

I've had problems with that short hose in the tank myself, it really seems to me that they probably could have put some thought into using something that wouldn't get softened by all the years in the fuel.

It just goes to show that even the expert designers at the car companies don't know what they're doing 100% of the time ;)
(or it's proof that there actually is a conspiracy to make you return for constant dealer service)
