Stalling issue in my 89 Honda Prelude
Hopefully someone can give me some opinions on my issue.
Last night at a stop light my car stalled. I restarted it fine headed to a gas station filled up and the car started fine. As soon as i put it in drive it stalled out. Since then the car still starts fine but as soon as i press the gas then release it stalls. I managed to get it home by putting it in neutral and gassing it at stop lights. It was a little jerky when i gassed it as if it was either gas starved or air starved. Im guessing fuel filter mybe pump or clogged air filter any ideas? Thanks |

Re: Stalling issue in my 89 Honda Prelude
Sounds like a fuel problem. Attach a fuel pressure gage and note the pressure reading at initial start up it should remain steady. Have someone in the car put it in drive while holding down the brakes hard and look at the gage to see if there is a significant drop in pressure. If the pressure drops like a stone it may indicate the fuel pump is on its last legs..... But not necessarily so, it could mean a blocked fuel filter. On some Honda preludes there are two fuel regulators, 1on the engine , the other on the fuel pump. With the engine running, disconnect the vacuum hose to the fuel regulator on the engine, you should see the pressure rise significantly, if not then the regulator is faulty. The regulator on the pump (if applicable) is more difficult to diagnose. It would be a good idea to check the gas tank and fuel lines to see if they are leaking, the fuel lines from the tank to the front of the engine before the pump are sometimes routed through the left rear wheel well where all the sediment is built up rotting out the lines causing an air pocket to build. So instead of gas going through the lines its air.
hope this helps you in the right direction. Last edited by octaneman; 05-14-2009 at 09:27 PM. |
