I have a 90 Geo Prizm.
The problem started after accidently touching the + and - pole with the wrench while removing the battery cable. Shortly afterward, the battery and brake guages illuminated and stays on. I visually checked the fuses and they appear to be ok (including the Alt, Am1,and Am2 fuses at the end of the battery cable). I disconnected the neg. battery cable with the engine running and the engine turned off. I took the alternater to autozone and the machine indicates that the alternater is functioning properly. Could it be a fusible link? If so, where would it be located.

Re: 90 geo prism charging system problem
Hi results2 and welcome to TSF,
It could very well be a fusible link. The link will be inline with the wire going from the alternator to the battery cable. It is about 3 inches long and 1/4 inch in diameter or less. To tell if it is blown, either remove the positive battery cable and measure the resistance of the wire to the alternator or use a test lamp. To use the test lamp, leave the battery connected and test for voltage at the alternator terminal. Hope this helps. Best regards, Mack1
