2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The control panel on the driver side door does not work - opened window cannot close - lock button does not work either - on the passenger side the door locks work but the window button does not work. Can you give me any suggestions on what the problem may be - checked some fuses but don't know exactly what I am looking for. Thanks for your help

Re: 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

If the switches broke at different times, pass side worked but drivers side stopped, it's most likely in the switch. depends on what you hear when operating the switch, a hum means the switch is working but the drive is broken that connects to the window.
Most often it's the switch itself, they get lots of crap in them and it's not uncommon for them to get corroded inside. Some can be taken apart and cleaned with either contact cleaner, or an eraser, preferebly one of the grey ink erasers with a slight grit. Most are too much trouble so replacement is easiest.
The switches may be dealer only depending on how many models it was used on, and the production run. lots of models, or a long production run means you may find them at the local auto-parts.

With my explorer I always have the window open at least a couple inches rain, snow or sun, (like ventilation) and tend to go through them, so I pick up spare switches at the local scrap yard when I'm there and keep them in the glove box. (50 cents, two minutes to change)

Ken.
