Re: 2000 Ford Ecursion - long crank when warm
Hi Milton and welcome to TSF,
How did you check the fuel pressure? Did you check it later when it didn't want to start to compare the readings? If you have a weak fuel pump, you might try this. Turn the switch on and off (not start, just on and off) three or four times before trying to start. The pump will come on for about 1 and 1/2 seconds with each off to on. Several off to on's will cause a weak pump to keep delivering a pulse to the line thus building up the pressure. If it then starts imediately, you have a weak pump. Another way to test for fuel probems is to use a can of starter fluid. After it gets sluggish on starting, remove the ducts to the intake manifold and spray some fluid in and see if it will bust right off. If it does, it again points to a sluggish fuel pump. Guess I'm having trouble thinking it is ignition since they normal work better when the engine is warm and the alternator has had time to add full charge to the battery. But...if it isn't fuel, then it must be ignition. Let us know what you find. Best regards, Mack1
