'03 Explorer Electrical Problem
I have an '03 Ford Explorer, the guages in the console, radio and windows stopped working. Is this a blown fuse or something else?

Hi Mark, That would surely be my first guess. If you have an owner's manual, it will have a breakout of the fuses with locations. Also, the use is normally listed by the fuse. Normally you can see that a fuse has blown by a dark color where the element burned in two. There's probably spare fuses in the fuse box. It will probably say SPARE by those fuses Best regards, Mack1

Re: '03 Explorer Electrical Problem
Hey Mack1,
I've visually checked two fuse box locations, one in the engine compartment and one in the driver's side and can't see a blown fuse. There are numerous relays in both fuse boxes, but I'm not sure if there is a visual check for the relays. The owner's manual lists fuses and their functions, though none seem to match this combination of guages, radio and windows. Plus all the warning lights are on, so it is a wierd problem. I think it may be more than just a fuse, but I'm hoping it is a simple (cheap) electrical component that needs to be replaced. Any suggestions? |

Re: '03 Explorer Electrical Problem
Hi Mark,
I would suggest that you go to your local parts dealer and get a maintenance book for your Ford. I use the Haynes books. Some of them have good electrical prints and others don't. If you would like us to help track the problem down, post some relivent prints here. It's likely the problem is a ground connection that is loose or broken. Those are usually hard to find and you might have to do a lot of digging to find it. If you are lucky, you will be able to find something common about all the lights and functions to fix it. Lately, I have been using a digital camera to make copies of prints for posting. If you happen to have a scanner, that would be easier. If you need instruction on posting a picture, just click on this link: http://www.techsupportforum.com/cont...icles/151.html Best regards, Mack1
