Prostart - check engine light - need help
Vechicle: 1999 GMC Sonoma , 4.3L 4x4
I installed a prostart (canadian tire) remote starter and a idatalink bypass module. in the installation instructions for the remote starter it says the check engine light will come on if the second ignition wire is not wired in. Originally i wired it in to the wrong wire. So my check engine light came on. I changed the wire and the light is still on. SO does anyone know what color the second ignition wire is? and is it a thick one or a small one? (so i know if i have it correct). I have it on a white wire, but it a small on, not like the pink ignition wire. AND if i have it correct, will the light clear itself right away. or will it take some time to get the check engine light off???? or do i have to clear it? Thanks, any info is great, i need to get this out of the garage. Ben |

Re: Prostart - check engine light - need help
Hi benwreynolds and welcome to TSF,
I can't help much with the wiring of the remote starter, but the check engine light can be extinguished by using an OBD II scanner. If you don't have a scanner, they will usually let you use one for free at Auto Zone and other parts places. Also, disconnect the battery cable for a few seconds will reset it. If the light comes back on, the problem is still there, what ever it is. Best advice I can give on the remote start unit, is to review the paperwork that came with it closely. Maybe someone who has installed one of these will jump in and help. Best regards, mack1
