Many things can cause the symptoms your Polo is showing..... the onboard puter is one of them but pricey...... $300USD. Check with good parts supplier and see if they can test your onboard puter.

Im not sure if your car will have a OBD2 or Vag-com prot, but if it does get it hooked up and see if there are any fault codes.

Re: 1991 vw polo station wagon

Hi carsey!!

I think the '91's are too early for the OBDII and are manufacturer specific with the OBDI, unless you want to pay $350USD for the adapter harnesses.

I agree with getting the car hooked up for diagnostics..... just too many controls/sensors that can go wrong and guessing only costs time and money. I have the time but I am well short on cash.

Just another option, have you tried looking at the throttle body/carbreteur (sp?) Make sure that it is opening properly and it is free from any dirt.

Re: 1991 vw polo station wagon

No fair carsey..... you are british and always spell things different

Here in the colonies we spell it carburetor. If you were French I would not be surprised to find 'eur" as the ending of the word and being British I can see your spelling of the word with 'our'. The American forefathers were on a shoestring budget and dropped the "u" in many words due to the cost of ink..... I think.

Good point on the TB or injector/s....

I was wondering if the engine was straining to reach any kind of RPM and that is not good.
