Dodge 2.7L engine lifting fixture mount locations
I'm removing a 2.7 from my 2000 Dodge Intrepid. The instructions show the location where to attach the 8342 engine lifting fixture. I want to confirm the locations - on the front it's a hole that takes a 10mm bolt and on the rear it's actually the hole where the top 10mm bolt goes to hold the EGR value on. Is it ok to use the EGR bolts to attach the engine lift or should I buy separate ones? They seem too small a bolt to hold the weight of the engine.
Also, since I can't find a 8342, do you suggest any alternatives? I found a lifing fixture at AutoZone that is similar, except the it has 2 chains attached to the top bar instead of 2 vertical bars attached to the top bar. |

Re: Dodge 2.7L engine lifting fixture mount locations
Hi richb500,
The chains will give you more flexibility in attaching the lift fixture and should work fine. As for the bolts.... you will need to buy longer bolts to make sure you have "grabbed" enough of the threads to prevent "stripping" or thread damage. You might want to explain to your supplier what you intend to do and see if he/she has reccomendation on the grade of steel used in the bolt. Best of luck, SABL |

Re: Dodge 2.7L engine lifting fixture mount locations
I was thinking also to maybe take the bolts that fit each hole and make sure you get the right thread pitch, but as SABL has explained do get longer bolts because you dont want to drop that engine on or anywhere near your car or on the ground. Look at the head of the bolt and it may have markings to distinguish the grade of bolt and if the bolt is standard or metric. Hope everything works for you!!!!!!!!!

Re: Dodge 2.7L engine lifting fixture mount locations
richb500,
I had to cobble one together once; piece of angle iron, with chains bolted to it. Take a nail, soda straw to measure the depth of the hole, add the thickness of the chain and a washer, the washer goes on the bolt then through the chain it also helps to spread the weight, and gurantees the bolt won't slip on the chain. If you google.... 8342 engine lifting fixture ...the second link down gives excellent advice on the removal and installation process. Steve |
