EEK! 87 nissan sentra throttle body issues

I have a 1987 Nissan Sentra with about 137k on it. A few days ago it began sputtering under load. I changed out the fuel filter and the problem decreased, but is still there. The engine has always starved for gas above about 3500-4000rmp. Since I don't drive it hard it really hasn't bothered me to keep the rpm's low and it runs fine. Though it varies some, the starving seems most at 2500 rpm under load, and then above 3500 rpm. Except when the engine is cold. Once it warms up problem is there again.

This is a 1.6Fi liter with a throttle body injector. I can figure old school Holly's, etc. These typs of TBI are less familliar to me. CAn you clean the injector? Is there a bowl to clean out?
Thanks for any imput and suggestions.

Re: 87 nissan sentra throttle body issues

I would be more inclined to look at fuel pressure first .Tbi systems usually are very reliable.also,is there a pressure regulator and return hose?A quick test is to clamp off the return hose, without cutting or damaging, naturally, and road testing .it should have all kinds of power. If the regulator is bad,and if there is no change,or little improvement, a fuel pressure test is still recommended.Hope this info is useful!
