Ford Ranger dies when idleing...?
I got a 94 ford ranger stick and I just replaced the spark plugs so it can't be them but it dies randomly when you let it idle when stopped or in traffic just wondering what it could be?

Re: Ford Ranger dies when idleing...?
Do you get a check engine light?
It may be a Idle Air Control Valve sticking on the side of the Throttle Valve which can be cleaned using a sensor safe carb cleaner after removing you need to use new gaskets. |

Re: Ford Ranger dies when idleing...?
Hi
Make sure you have the plugs tightened sufficantly, you may be losing compression. Also, since you just changed the plugs, make sure they are the right ones and gapped properly. You may have to check the timing and also, make sure none of the wires are arcing. Start you engine at night and look to see if there is any sparking between the wires. Did it do this before you changed the plugs? It seems that you say it only does this at idle speed. Is your idle speed correct? If it is too low you may induce stalling. Also a clogged air/fuel filter may cause problems. And try some fuel injector (Or carbuerator) cleaner. Make sure distributor is clean with good contacts and clean rotor (you can clean these parts with fine emery cloth, or just buy new ones, they're cheap). Those are some places to start without spending a bunch of money. Jack |
