1995 nissan maxima just filled up with gas. Next morning there is gas on the ground below the fuel tank. Looks like a lot but it was falling on cold concrete. Looked under and see a small hole where it appears to be coming out. Could this be overflow????? Or a fuel leak? The car is my 17 year old daughters and dont want her driving without knowing what this is. Any thoughts?

Re: Gas leak?
she may be overfilling the tank on every refill. Tell her when the pump automatically stops, to not try to put more fuel in there afterward. The pump knows best when to stop, that's why it has that built-in safety stop.
Also, make sure it has a factory gas cap and not some aftermarket cheap cap from a parts store. Factory parts are always best |

Re: Gas leak? (1995 nissan maxima)
Hi rusteroni,
Exactly where is the hole?? Is it near the filler cap?? Many times the vent tube is located next to the fill tube behind the door of the fill tube and there will be a hole to drain any liquid from expansion. If this is where the leakage is coming from, follow ST's advice and don't overfill the tank .... gas is still expensive. Not only that, there could be a fire hazard. |
