2000 chevrolet malibu electrical problem

My daughter in laws car, 2000 Chev. Malibu, she was driving down the road about 65 mph and all the intruments and lights on the dash started flashing and going crazy and the car died. Would not restart. Is this an ignition switch or computer problem or just a short somewhere? I could use some advice on where to start. thanks dh

Re: 2000 chevrolet malibu electrical problem

a lot of these problems are caused by a bad ground somewhere, normally a ground wire from battery to engine block/car's bod. Make sure the contact points are not corroded... best place to start.

Re: 2000 chevrolet malibu electrical problem

Thanks for the help, but I figured out the problem. I checked fuel pump pressure, had none. Pulled the gas filter and turned on the key,,, nothing. I took the tank off expecting to replace the fuel pump,,,,tank was empty. Ran out of gas, the gas gauge had malfunctioned and was showing 1/4 tank yet. Thanks for the help.
