95 Cavalier Engine Problem
I have a 95 Cavalier (2.2 engine). When the engine is cold it starts and runs fine as long as you don't shut it off. When you start it again while the engine is warm it will bog down, shut off or idle roughly. You have to wait till the engine is cooler before it will operate properly. Some say it sounds like the computer and I also was told to check the O2 sensors. I swapped out the front O2 sensor and not the rear (no change). Any assistance would be appretiated because I can't trust the mechanics in my area (from experience).

Re: 95 Cavalier Engine Problem
Chris,
Have you had anyone check to see if the computer is giving any codes? Some times the computer will give a code but not indicate with a check engine light or other indicator light. Your local auto parts store (Auto Zone, Advanced, NAPA, etc.) will do a system scan at no charge. My experience with auto parts stores is they will always try to sell you parts based off what codes the computer reads before the issue fully diagnosed. Instead of buying anything just ask for the codes then post the code here. I will do some other research to see what I can find if there are no codes. |

Re: 95 Cavalier Engine Problem
I agree with PM. A reputable auto parts store will try to help you with your issues. A happy customer always comes back!!
I was not aware that NAPA would do a system scan.....I'll have to ask. I have my own OBDII scanner that is rarely used but has paid for itself many times over. Misdiagnosis can get pretty expensive with the cost of all the electronic components that are required in today's vehicles. Get your car scanned and quit guessing..... if no codes have been "thrown" then you start guessing. Let us know how you are progressing. SABL |
