2003 Ford Taurus Broke Down on Highway

Hi,

I have a 2003 Ford Taurus with 53,000 miles. Yesterday, on my way home from work, driving in traffic, it just stopped running on the highway. All the lights on the dashboard lit up, battery light, fuel light, etc. I couldn't get it to start again and it had to be towed.

Today, it started up right away at the mechanics place. As of yet, they haven't been able to find anything wrong with it. I don't trust this car at all now and will just be waiting for it to break down again. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Lynne

First thought, coil heating up. Second thought, fuel pump. Do you get
a check engine light? What will narrow it down is that not every thing
will throw a code. If its throwing a code, its fairly easy, but if not
you have a tougher way to go. If you have my luck its the fuel pump,
and that will not throw a code.

first thing i think of is it overheated and shut down. keep an eye on the temp gauge while driveing it. when it gets up to regular temp make sure the fan is coming on. also turn the a/c on and make sure the fan kicks on.

Ford, at one time, had a problem with the ignition control module overheating. Not sure if it extended into that model year.

Thanks for your replies. They finally did get the car to stall at the mechanic's -they ruled out fuel pump and are still trying to find the problem. Hopefully they will figure it out.
