My 2001 Grand Cherokee for the last 15 months starts sometimes and then won't at other times. It's been towed over a half dozen times 'cause I could not get it started. Chrysler Techs put it on the computer at two different locations after being towed. It cost me over $900 one time and over $600 for them to tell me they could find nothing wrong?????? After being towed there, it started. At $99.00 per day, I can't do that anymore. The battery & cables and fuel pump and filter have recently been replaced. Was driving nicely since Mother's Day and then on Friday it wouldn't start. The next day it started. I went back 15 minutes later and all I got was a click. What's up with that? Help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 2001 Jeep Starts When It Wants To!
Hi and welcome to the forum
![]() Does it always click when it will not start ? Maybe a bad starter -possible dead spot. Next time it does this, crawl under it at smack to starter with a hammer. Don't beat on it, but it requires a pretty heavy "tap" . This is assuming that you know what the starter looks like. I also assume it runs fine and never dies when it is running. BG |

Re: 2001 Jeep Starts When It Wants To!
Hi BG,
Yes, it always clicks just one time and then nothing. It has never died while running. I am gonna crawl under and look for the starter. Thanks for your help! MJWS |

Re: 2001 Jeep Starts When It Wants To!
If is only ONE click, don't worry about crawling under it.....That doesn't sound like a starter problem. If you get click everytime you turn the key to the start postion, then still looking at I think a starter probelm.
Did they replace both battery cables ? If so, are they tight? Since this has happend before, how did they/ you get it started? New battery correct? BG |
