2000 chevy malibu
I recently acquired a 2000 chevy malibu and I've begun to experience starting problems.
Problem: I try to start engine, it makes the sound as if it wants to start but it does not crank over. The first time it did this I had it towed to the auto shop. When they hooked it up to their diagnostic machine the machine did not pick up any problem signals from the engine. He tried turning it on and it turn on without any problems. He was honest enough to tell me that he could not find anything wrong and did not charge me anything. Several weeks later the same thing happened again and the car would not start. I had it towed again, this time to another mechanic. When I explanied the problem he said it was a frequent problem with this brand and make of car. He said to put the key in the ignition to the on position and let it sit for 20 minutes the next time it happens. But the car turned on without any problems once I unloaded it from the flat bed tow. Another weeks have passed and yesterday it did the same thing again. I tried leaving the key in the ignition this time for some time but that has not worked. Any suggestions as to what's the cause and if it can be fixed and if I should take it to the dealer to get overcharged? |

Re: 2000 chevy malibu
This the security system problem that has plagued many GM products in that same year range. I have found a way to bypass the system so it resolves these starting issues. I have an Impala driving from another state to have me do this bypass at which time I am going to take many pics so I can create a detailed instruction sheet on by passing the system.
I also have locally a malibu that I will be performing the bypass on soon. Next time it does this, turn the ignition to the run position. Do not try to start. Pay attention to the security light. It will probably be flashing. Leave the ignition in the run position until the security light is on steady, (usually 10 minutes) the car should then start. It's quite an inconvenience but should be less hassle and cheaper than having it towed then it starting. |
